Introduction

The Access to Higher Education, Counselling Diploma, is a qualification which prepares people without traditional qualifications for study at university. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need or you may not have been in education for several years, then an Access to HE course could be the course for you. There is no upper-age limit for Access to HE courses. Courses are part time and students complete the course in one year.

What will I learn

The Diploma is made up of a series of units which are individually graded. Subjects will include Word Processing for Access, Study Skills Communication Skills, Select and use ICT for Access, Psychology, Counselling Theory, Professional skills and Fundamental Skills of Counselling, Personal development within counselling.

How will I learn

The production of an electronic portfolio of evidence is crucial. Assessment involves the writing of essays reports, presentations, research and health promotion activities.

What's next

On successful completion of the access diploma students can apply to university for a place on FdA Counselling Degree.

Access to H.E. can be fully funded with a 19+ Advance Learner Loan (conditions apply). Your 19+ Advanced Learner Loan will be written off if you successfully progress onto University and complete your course. If you are aged 19 to 23 you may be entitled to full funding of your course if you have not already achieved a full Level 3 qualification.
