College Salon gets a Head Start

Middlesbrough primary school teacher, Carol Baker, has gone to the top of the class as the winner of a year’s free beauty treatments.

Redcar and Cleveland College offered the prize of hair and beauty sessions for someone who could come up with a name for their brand new salon, which is part of the new college development on Corporation Road, Redcar.

Carol, from Pine Hill, Guisborough, suggested “TS10” – also part of the college postcode – and a panel from the college picked it as the winner.

Carol was a determined entrant. She said: “I saw the competition launch in the newspaper and thought I’d have a go. I suggested quite a number – more than 60 - and was delighted to have won.”

Carol been using the current college salon since October last year. “I started going to help a student who wanted me to be a client. Since then, I have had massages, hair treatments, facials and eye lash tints. The standards are just so good – and my sister goes too.”

Carol, 54, is married to retired police officer, Colin, and teaches year four children at Abingdon Primary School, Middlesbrough.

She received her prize from the college Principal, Gary Groom, along with the Head of the Hair and Beauty Division, Delia Ledbitter.

Gary said: “We had hundreds of entrants from all over the area – it was a very popular competition - but we were delighted to discover that Carol was already a fan.”

Paul said: “TS10 is a very contemporary name, which tells people this is a local facility. It has great potential as a brand name.”
