Talented students showcase their skills at art and design exhibition
Wednesday 23 June 2010
Talented students showed off their flair for all things creative when they hosted an art and design exhibition at their college.
The students at Redcar & Cleveland College invited family, friends and prospective students into their classroom to look at the impressive display of work they had completed during the last year.
Course leader Meg Ashley said the 45 exhibitors, who are first and second year BTEC level three students, had put together the varied exhibition, involving photography, 3D design, textiles, ceramics, drawing, printing and graphic design, on Tuesday.
“I was delighted with the exhibition the students put together because it showcased the wide variety of disciplines they have studied and their work is really of a wonderful standard,” she said.
“We have some very talented students, who I know will go on to great things. They have produced pieces of work that are simply outstanding. All of the students have done extremely well and it’s great for us to be able to show their families and friends what they have achieved.”
Kay Lillystone was particularly proud of her abstract wall mural, which was inspired by her ideas and thoughts about industry.
The 18-year-old, from Marske, who is hoping to be a teacher, said: “My favourite piece of work came out of the industry project because I could really add my personality to it and I could get down on the floor and get my hands dirty.
“I have loved doing this college course and have learned so much. I am looking forward to going to Teesside University, but will miss everyone here.”
Lucy Nicholson, 18, from Redcar, is going on to Cleveland College of Art and Design to study fashion on a higher level course.
She said: “Putting on the exhibition is fun because we could look back at everything we have achieved and feel proud. I have loved this course and there have been some really talented people here, but I am excited about the future, too.”
