Teesside students are celebrating after excelling in their studies at a local college.
At a time when teenagers are choosing their next career move after getting their GCSE and A-Level results, more than 30 Redcar & Cleveland College students have achieved triple distinctions in their BTEC Level 3 Extended Diplomas, in subjects ranging from health and social care to business, travel and tourism, science and engineering.
Equivalent to three A-Levels, the qualification provides students with a direct route into higher education or employment in a wide variety of sectors.
Adelle Oglesby is one of the students who’s celebrating after gaining her extended diploma in health and social care. The 17-year-old, a winner in Redcar & Cleveland College’s annual Celebration of Achievements Awards, now wants to go on to study midwifery at university before forging a rewarding career in the sector.
She said: “The diploma has given me a great platform for my chosen career in midwifery. It just shows you that you don’t have to go down the traditional route of doing A Levels before you go to university.”
John Chance, principal of Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “I’d like to congratulate all of the students for their fantastic achievements. Their dedication and ability has shone through and, in some cases, their results have exceeded expectations. Now they have a great opportunity to go on and be a success in their chosen careers.”
