Employer Views

Redcar & Cleveland College has worked with a number of different businesses. This section illustrates the type of training we have delivered and the different types of businesses we have delivered it to.

SABIC & ABB

For the second consecutive year, Redcar & Cleveland College has worked with Sabic Petrochemicals, formerly known as Huntsman, at the Wilton Site to provide training for their employees.

The College delivered the BTEC National Certificate in Maths and Science, qualifying the staff for progression on to the Higher National Certificate in Engineering.

The course delivery is tailored to the needs of the Sabic workforce and working shift patterns. This model of delivery has now been extended to AAB, who also operate at the Wilton Site.

Mark Loughran, ESS Inspection Manager, SABIC UK Petrochemicals said:

“The tailored HNC programme provided by the College has enabled us to develop our people, first by giving them the under-pinning academic requirements around their current roles, and secondly to prepare them for further internationally accredited technical training."

AUTISM AWARENESS

In response to the growing awareness and diagnosis of autism and autistic-spectrum conditions in schools and communities, Redcar & Cleveland College developed and introduced a new course in Autism Awareness for professionals.

The College welcomed delegates from local schools, nursing homes and the NHS to the first course in February 2007.

Tutor, Cath Appleby, led the course following the successful completion of her MA in 2006 specialising in Autism. She said:

This course will help any professional who may work with individuals affected by an autistic-spectrum condition and also covers very important points relating to the new Disability Discrimination and Every Child Matters Legislation."

Delegates who attended the course said the following:

“The course was very useful and appropriate."

“I really enjoyed the course itself and the ability to learn through discussion with others on the course."

“Very interesting, good use of resources and materials. Well presented."
