This new and exciting Access to Diploma in Policing* programme has been developed to meet current demands for progression onto a higher education course such as the degree in policing, as well as the apprenticeship degree programmes. The structure of this diploma will cover the much-needed skills and knowledge to meet the progression requirements for all adult students to move onto further study or employment. With the Home Office planning to recruit over 20,000 new police officers over the next 3 years, this Access to Policing programme will assist those adult learners who are looking for a future career within the Police. *This course is subject to approval.

What will I learn

You will undertake this one-year, part-time course, which is designed to give you the skills, knowledge and behaviours required for progression onto either a higher education course or onto the degree apprenticeship programme. You will complete units linked to criminal law, professional behaviours for police officers, crime in context and law and criminology. The programme will also offer English and maths skills for higher education, in order to prepare you for your next steps.

How will I learn

You will learn through a face-to-face model of teaching within a classroom setting (some restrictions may apply), with experienced and knowledgeable lecturers. Guest speakers and lectures with partners such as Cleveland Police, will also form part of the programme. Learners will be assisted to develop their own independent learning skills, in preparation for their next steps, as well as support using a range of interactive digital packages such as Microsoft Teams.

After successful completion of this course, you can progress onto a higher education course or onto the degree apprenticeship programme.

Additional Information

There are no exams linked to the Access to Diploma in Policing programme. You will be assessed through written assignments, presentations and simulated scenarios. Assessments will be an ongoing process throughout the full year. You will look to complete approx. 2-3 assessments for each subject, to demonstrate your level of knowledge in that unit. This course can be funded through an Advanced Learner Loan. More information will be provided once your application has been submitted.
