Carpentry & Joinery

Carpentry & Joinery courses are for students who wish to pursue a career in the wood occupations industry. Units include health and safety, technical information, quantities and communication, construction technology, producing woodworking joints, using hand tools and using portable power tools.

At Level 2 an exciting range of products will be constructed by setting out, marking out and then construction, with particular emphasis on curved or circular products. Level 3 continues to develop skills learnt at Level 2 with units including analysing technical information, quantities and communication, analysing the construction industry and built environment.

With well-equipped workshops, up to date equipment and experienced academic and support staff the department has an outstanding record in the North East and nationally for winning craft competitions.

The Level 2 and 3 Diploma is closely linked to the Construction (CITB) Industry Training Board and suitable learners will be put forward for work placements as and when they occur.
