The armed services were out in force at Redcar & Cleveland College this week.
Military personnel were showcasing the massive array of career opportunities that exist within the armed services.
With everything from climbing walls to armoured vehicles and even a helicopter, the college on Corporation Road provided the backdrop for the action-packed event.
And no doubt the sunshine helped bring out the crowds, including local schools, who were keen to see what all the fuss was about.
Redcar & Cleveland College’s Uniformed Public Services course leader Jane Rishworth said: “This is the second year that we have offered this event along with the army recruitment office, and it appears that word had spread.
“It offered the chance not only for the community to learn more about the armed services but also to find out more about the college and the full range of courses we have available right here on their doorstep.”
With public services students helping to set up and run the event, Jane said: “It is great for the students to work directly with the armed forces.
“The event benefits both current and prospective students as it demonstrates opportunities alternative to traditional employment.”
Armed services represented at the event included: the Coldstream Guards, the Yorkshire Regiment, Quebec Company 4 Yorkshire Regimental Reserves, the Royal Armoured Corps with Royal Yeomanry Reserves, the Royal Artillery, Army Medical services, the Royal Logistics Corps, Army Air Corps, Royal Engineers, Royal Corps of Signals and the Army Careers Office Middlesbrough.
Army Recruitment Office Lead Recruiter Jason Lochrane said: “The aim of the day is to show career progression after college, allowing units to show their trade whilst letting students interact with serving soldiers and get the chance to get their hands on all the equipment and ask questions. It was a good day with a good footfall and it was a pleasure meeting the students and locals of Redcar.”
