Computer Science students from Redcar & Cleveland College recently showcased their latest app and game designs at an event attended by local schools, parents and businesses.

Tasked with creating an app or game for a mobile device, PC or Mac, Level 2 and 3 students were asked to demonstrate the ways in which IT is relevant in all vocations.

Promoting the event to nearby schools and with advertisements on social media and local radio, visitors were invited to provide ‘user experience’ feedback on all the games and apps which were showcased. The students will now use the feedback to improve their creations before completing this unit of their studies.

Sam Beel, Computer Science Lecturer at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “The students did exceptionally well and should be extremely proud of themselves. They’ve put a great deal of hard work into the creation of their apps and games, and so it was great to see their peers, parents and members of the local community testing their products and giving them positive feedback”

“IT is an important part of everyday life in almost every industry, and working to produce apps for a wide range of sectors will help the students to gain much-needed employability skills which will enable them to gain meaningful employment once they leave the college.”

Having worked to identify the learning needs of the local community, Redcar & Cleveland College aims to close the skills gap and supply the area with an exciting new curriculum offering courses at every level to further support every student in their learning journey.
