Redcar & Cleveland College Provides Chemical Engineering Student with the Winning Formula to Gain Full Time Employment

A Chemical Engineering student from Redcar & Cleveland College has secured employment with North Yorkshire-based pet food company, Inspired Pet Nutrition.

Nicholas Ingledew, 19 from Middlesbrough, has joined the team as a Continuous Improvement Engineer following a two year part-time Higher National Certificate course at Redcar & Cleveland College, in partnership with Teesside University.

Having been directed towards the opportunity by course tutor Ravi Ravindran, Nicholas will implement continuous improvement techniques including root cause analysis, six sigma (a process designed to reduce the probability of error) and 5S (a system which aims to improve workplace efficiency and eliminate waste).

Nicholas said: “I’m thrilled to have landed this role with Inspired Pet Nutrition and can’t thank Ravi and the team at Redcar & Cleveland College enough.

“I first heard about the Chemical Engineering HNC Course when I was studying Level 3 Process Technologies at The TTE Technical Training Group, but it wasn’t until I actually started the course that I really became inspired to work in the industry.

“My tutors and the other students who were already in employment shared their knowledge and made the content easy to understand, which made me even more excited to find a role in this sector.

“Inspired Pet Nutrition has a great reputation and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

In addition to his day-to-day role with Inspired Pet Nutrition, Nicholas has also gained sponsorship from the organisation which will allow him to complete a Bachelors Degree in Chemical Engineering at Teesside University.

Ravi Ravindran, course tutor at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “Nicholas was an extremely academic student who could have chosen to follow the traditional A Level then University route but instead chose to pursue a career in engineering – gaining the skills needed through a combination of hands-on experience and industry-focused learning.

“He is extremely hardworking and I’m sure he will use his analytical skills and academic ability to excel in his new role.”
