Redcar & Cleveland College Students excel on BA Honours Degree

After enrolling on to the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools at Redcar & Cleveland College, many passionate students have progressed to further their studies through the Level 3 Diploma, the Early Years Foundation Degree and now the BA Honours Degree in Education and Training.

Emma Wales, Jenny Weeks, Karl Hawthorne and Michael Douglass, who are due to complete the BA (Hons) Degree this July, have either successfully secured their places on a teacher training course or intend to advance into employment in teaching when they finish their studies.

Karl, who is due to start his School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) Course in September, said:

“Studying at Redcar & Cleveland College has been a fantastic experience for me. I have developed my skills over the last few years through the help of my tutors and the support staff.

“I’m very much looking forward to starting my teacher training course and putting into practice the skills I have developed at this college to help me to achieve greater things and progress further.”

There is more success in the class, as Cherith Robinson, Donna Howard, Holly Kentfield and Louise Lawrenson, who are also studying for the same degree, have secured places on teacher training courses too.

With a range of part-time teaching qualifications on offer, Redcar & Cleveland College helps students develop their skills to effectively support learning in schools and other educational settings. As part of the curriculum, students complete volunteer placements with many gaining employment through their placement providers.

Course tutor, Catherine McPartland, said:

“We have some exemplary students on this course, whose dedication and determination to succeed has played a crucial part in their recent achievements.

“It is wonderful to see the progression that these students have made since enrolling on their Level 2 qualification to now working towards their BA (Hons) and gaining employment. This is a massive achievement and we are very proud of them and wish them every success with their career in education.”
