Introduction

This course is suitable for parents, babysitters, grandparents, aunties, uncles or anyone who has responsibility for children, whether it is in a work setting or within a domestic environment. This qualification is for learners who have responsibility for young children. This qualification must be retaken within three years from the date of certification to ensure the learner updates their knowledge and practice in line with changes in procedures and protocols.

What will I learn

The qualification will guide and assess the development of knowledge and skills relating to this course (Paediatric First Aid). This is a recognised Paediatric First Aid qualification. The Course will provide you with the necessary first aid skills to help a child in cases of an emergency. Subjects include: • Emergency Paediatric First Aid • Managing Paediatric Illness, Injuries and Emergencies By the end of this course you will be able to: • Treat an unconscious casualty • Administer CPR and place a casualty in the recovery position • Have knowledge of choking, wounds and bleeding • Determine levels of consciousness • Identify musculoskeletal injuries • Treat burns, poisons and medical conditions specific to children • Demonstrate the use of a ‘training device’ adrenaline auto-injector

How will I learn

It will be assessed by your tutor using a range of methods. These may include practical demonstrations and task-based assessments. You will complete a workbook to show your knowledge and understanding of First Aid.
