Introduction

Nationally there are 2 tiers of entry in GCSE Maths: • Foundation level at which it is possible to achieve grades 1 to 5; and • Higher level at which it is possible to achieve grades 4 to 9 All students are required to meet the required standard during assessment to determine their provisional suitability for a 1-year online GCSE course. This will be followed by a further assessment in week 6 to identify suitability for progression to either the Foundation or Higher tier. You should note that the information currently available tells us if it is possible to achieve grades 4 and 5 at both Higher and Foundation levels.

What will I learn

You will study a programme that encompasses the whole of the maths curriculum this will include: • Number • Algebra • Ratio • Geometry • Measures • Statistics • Probability.

How will I learn

The focus of this course is on independent learning. The course will be delivered via the colleges Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). A variety of resources including; • PowerPoints • Video tutorials • Downloadable documents/ assessments • MyMaths • Office 365- TEAMS • Maths Watch

What's next

GCSE Maths is required in many professions such as teaching or nursing. It can also lead to A Levels and is a good foundation for enrolling on Access to Higher Education.

Additional Information

This course is free, for those who do not have an A* to C /9-4 grade GCSE. You will be required to have good knowledge of GCSE mathematics, at least to a grade 3 standard when assessed at the start of the course. Students are required to purchase course book, a scientific calculator, and a mathematical drawing set.
