Introduction

This is a great course for those who are looking to refresh their literacy skills or those wanting a taster of the college experience before committing to a long term course.

What will I learn

This course introduces learners to a range of basic literacy skills and practices. These may include work with basic spelling, punctuation and grammar, reading and writing skills and the ability to communicate with others verbally. This course is intended to introduce you to some of the content of the Functional Skills English curriculum or as a refresher of your own abilities.

How will I learn

The focus of the course is firmly on weekly, taught sessions at the college in a classroom environment. A variety of resources will be available to cover all the topics required. These include: • PowerPoint presentations • A range of activities • Practice exam style assessments We will provide a classroom based experience with a variety of teaching methods including the use of technology and “hands on” methods.

This course is an excellent introduction to Functional Skills English. You can proceed from here onto Functional Skills English or GCSE English (9-1).
