As part of National Apprenticeship Week we've caught up with former apprentice, Katie Harding, to find out about her experience as an apprentice and what she's doing now...
"I am a former Business Administration Apprentice of The College from 2012-2014, having worked at Coast & Country Housing to complete my Level 2 and Level 3. I spent four days a week in my role at Coast & Country, and one day a week studying my NVQ qualification.
"After gaining some experience in the marketing department within Coast & Country, I was keen to explore that progression route. With the help of Redcar & Cleveland College I was able to select and adapt the units I completed to support my journey, so then moved into the role of marketing administrator, and then marketing assistant within Coast & Country.
"Through my apprenticeship I was able to pick up and develop transferable skills – such as good communication, time management, problem solving and the ability to work professionally. These are all transferable skills I was able to take into any new employment.
"I am now working as a PR and Communications Executive at a marketing agency – Narrative Integrated Communications – who now regularly work with the college to support and implement their marketing strategy – so I have gone from being a student at the college to actually marketing for them!
"My assessor Julie was regularly on site to visit me at Coast & Country to make sure I kept up with my progress, she was a great help and had a really good working relationship with my employer.
"College was relaxed and provided plenty of opportunities to meet new people and develop interpersonal skills. All the staff I worked with were very supportive throughout my time there.
"I chose Redcar College as it was a local provider! If I could give any advice to anyone starting an apprenticeship it would be: do it. I wish I had started mine sooner!”
