Part of the Etc.
Well done to our super team who joined us at the Redcar Running Festival this weekend. A dedicated bunch, made up of six students and seven staff, took on the 5k Beacon run.
With every member successfully crossing the finish line, our volunteers did the College proud. They are raising money for the Redcar & Cleveland Mind, as voted for by our students.

Public Services student James, 23, was among those taking part. Speaking before the race he said: “I have always wanted to do a 5k so this was a great opportunity.”
Hoping to go in to the army after leaving College he said: “This is good training for that. I want to first do a 5k and then a 10k and work my way up.”
Ryley, 16, is studying Sport and Fitness at the College. He told us: “I have been doing things for charity since I was four, just because it is something I like to do. I haven’t done a lot recently with having my GCSEs, so I signed up for this. It is brilliant to see so many people here helping out for charity.”
Fellow Sport and Fitness students Leighanna and Nicole were also looking forward to the task ahead.
Nicole, 17, said: “I have been going to a running group so I thought I would join this as well.”
While Leighanna, 16, said: “I have taken up fitness so I run every day but I am a little bit nervous.”

After the race the team were all delighted to have completed the challenge.
Leighanna said: “It was hard but everyone is helping each other. There was a lady talking to me and she was saying don’t give up, so that really helped.”
Nicole added: “I was running with someone I didn’t know. She was going to give up and I said keep on going. I pushed her and that helped to keep me going. We ended up finishing together.”
Sport and Fitness student Matthew, 22, was also on our team. He said: “I enjoyed it but I found it difficult. I kept saying to myself, you can do it. I am going to do it again, I think it will be the 10k next time!”
