Students from Redcar & Cleveland College have gone head to head against each other in an annual hairdressing and beauty therapy competition, which aims to discover the very best new creative talent.

Students from the Teesside College’s Hairdressing, Hair and Media Make up, and Beauty courses took part in the competition on December 19th and were charged with creating avant-garde and fantasy looks for a panel of esteemed judges.

The judging panel included Victoria Emptage, Sam Smith and Abbie Lewis, who are all former students of Redcar & Cleveland College and have gone on to achieve great success within the hair and beauty industry.  They were joined by lecturer, Rebecca Maynard and student support assistant, Trudie Ayton.  All the judges were asked to assess the total look and mood board for each student.

The overall competition winner was Alla Loughran, a Level 2 hairdressing student, whose ‘fantasy’ submission captured the imagination of the judges.

Alla, said:

“I am thrilled to win the hair and beauty competition.  It was hard work and took lots of planning but I really enjoyed it.  My daughter, Natasha, was my model so to have her with me made the day even more special.  I’d like to work in hairdressing after college and I’m now excited for my future career!”

Karen Chaytor, programme leader, Redcar and Cleveland College, said:

“Our annual hair and beauty competition gives students the chance to showcase their talent, flair and creative abilities.  It also gives them the opportunity to gain invaluable feedback from experts in their field and a practical insight into working in the hair and beauty sector.”

Karen Chaytor added:

“A huge thanks to all the students who took part in our annual competition. The standard this year was phenomenally high and reflects the hard work, dedication and talent of every entrant.”
