A former Redcar & Cleveland College student has gained employment working for a major manufacturing firm on Australia’s Golden Coast, just a year after graduating.

Josh Vincent, originally from Eston, made the move to Australia in March 2017 after completing a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering at the College.

Studying at Redcar & Cleveland College, Josh developed the skills needed to take on the role of CNC Engineer for one of Australia’s leading manufacturers of patios, sheds, roofing and garages.

He said: “I moved to Australia almost a year after completing my course at Redcar & Cleveland College and found employment quickly. I was pleased to find out that it’s rare to find people of my age with this level of qualification, and that it’s highly respected in Australia.

“My employer is amazed at how quickly I’ve adapted to the role of CNC Engineer, and is thrilled with my skills in advanced engineering. I’m hoping that this role will lead to even better things as I’m hoping to eventually move into maintenance and fitting with the same organisation.”

Equivalent to three A Levels, the two-year Level 3 Extended Diploma in Engineering focuses on the core principals of the discipline – looking into mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering before giving students the chance to delve deeper into their chosen field during their second year.

Martin Prior, course tutor in Engineering at Redcar & Cleveland College, said: “At Redcar, we look to provide our students with the practical skills needed to succeed once they move on from education.”

“I’m thrilled that Josh has been able to take the knowledge and expertise he gained here and impress his new employers, and wish him the best of luck in his new role on the Golden Coast.”
