A young carer is someone under 18 who helps look after someone in their family, or a friend, who is ill, disabled or misuses drugs or alcohol.

At Redcar & Cleveland College, we’re committed to ensuring our students receive all the support they need.

So if you’re a young carer and don’t know where to turn, please rest assured that you can speak to us in confidence and we’ll provide you with as much additional support as we can.

This includes:

  • Learner Progress Tutors (LPTs)
Many young carers struggle to juggle their education and caring which can cause pressure and stress. Our dedicated team of LPTs provide students with a wide range of 1:1 support services, including: pastoral care support, special arrangements for examinations, signposting and liaising with specialist external services, and much more.  Based in the ‘Learner Progress Tutor’ room just off the College Atrium, students are able to pop in at any time.

  • Connections with The Junction
The Junction is a local charity which exists to make a difference to the lives of children, young people and their families, and we are proud to work closely with them to help our students and their loved ones get the best quality of life. Speak to the Student Services Team if you need advice or want to find out more. You can also speak to The Junction direct by calling 01642 756000.

  • Student Services
If you are struggling with your course and would like a confidential chat, or want to discuss which additional support services are available to you, the Student Services Team is here for you. You can find our friendly team on the ground floor of the college or speak to them by calling 01642 473132.
