Course overview
The Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning has been designed to provide learners with an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school or college environments. It covers a wide range of areas including children and young people’s development, supporting children and young people’s positive behaviour and communication and professional relationships.
It’s aimed at learners working in roles that support pupils’ learning in primary, secondary or special schools, as well as colleges.
You will have 11 mandatory units to complete within topic areas such as:
- Support positive behaviour in a learning environment for children and young people
- Support the health and safety of children and young people
- Equality, diversity and inclusion in a learning environment for children and young people
- Contribute to teamwork in a learning environment
Course information
You are required to compile a portfolio of evidence, which includes workplace observations, assignments, projects and reflective accounts. Your assessor will complete visits to your work environment or voluntary placement and assess your skills against learning outcomes and competencies.
You can progress on to the Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching & Learning in Schools.
- You must have a work placement or be employed working with children aged 3-19 years
- Evidence of a current DBS check (must be in place before the course starts)
- Good level of literacy, numeracy and ICT skills.
- You must be working in a paid or voluntary capacity for a minimum of 9 hours per week.

You will be learning within the classroom environment with a vocational experienced tutor. We are also introducing remote learning where we will facilitate planned lessons to you within in the comfort of your home. You will take part in presentations, debates, structure essays and reports to further your academic skills as well as learning to become an autonomous learner researching and studying independently to submit assignment work in on target dates.
