Course overview
This part-time programme is a foundation degree for early years’ practitioners working with children under the age of 8. You will be at least 18 and have experience of working with children in a variety of contexts and hold a Level 3 childcare qualification (or equivalent).
The foundation degree has been endorsed by SEFDEY.

Level 5 modules:
- Research for Early Years
- Learning and Best Practice in Early Years
- Protecting Children in the Early Years

Course information
Successful completion of this programme enables you to progress onto the final year of the BA (Hons) Education and Training or a relevant Top-Up degree.
In order to access the programme individuals must be working (paid or voluntary for 150 hours per year) in an appropriate setting (for example a school, nursery, children’s centre, within special education needs) and have professional access to children under the age of eight for the duration of their studies.
In addition, applicants must:
- Be 18 years or over by 31 December in their first year of study
- Have a level 3 qualification in a relevant area
- Have experience working in early years
- Undertake an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
The programme is assessed through course work which includes essays, reports, case studies, research reports and portfolio work.
