What will I learn

The NCFE Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Health and Social Care (Diploma) is designed for learners who want a flexible and practical route into the health and social care sector. This qualification has been developed in line with employer-led occupational standards, ensuring that what you learn reflects the real skills and knowledge required within today’s workforce. Throughout the course, you will explore key topics such as safeguarding, communication, equality and diversity, mental health, and person-centred care. You will develop a strong understanding of how legislation, policies and professional values underpin practice in health and social care settings. Learning is applied through realistic scenarios, case studies and sector-based discussions to prepare you for real-life situations.

How will I learn

A significant part of the course includes industry placement, where you will gain hands-on experience in a health or social care setting, helping you build confidence and practical skills. You will also take part in employer engagement activities such as guest speakers, workshops and industry insights to deepen your understanding of different roles within the sector. The course is delivered through a combination of classroom-based learning, independent study and practical experience, supporting the development of essential transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and resilience.

What's next

After completing the course, you will have a wide range of progression opportunities available. The qualification carries UCAS points and is recognised by universities, supporting progression into degree programmes such as nursing, midwifery, social work, paramedic science and other health-related courses. Alternatively, you may choose to progress into higher-level apprenticeships within the health and social care sector or move directly into employment. The practical experience gained through placement, alongside your qualification, can support entry into roles such as healthcare assistant, support worker or care practitioner.

Additional Information

MATHS AND ENGLISH: Full-time 16-18 year olds who do not have a grade 4/C or above in maths and/ or English, will attend weekly sessions with specialist tutors to work towards the relevant qualification(s). This is really useful to support you on your main course and is really valued by employers.
