Further education students from colleges across the North-east came together to celebrate The North East Inter-College Skills Competitions final presentation.
The event at Redcar and Cleveland College saw the achievements of 166 students from 14 colleges recognised as winners and runners up in the regional contest, with a staggering 48 competition categories.
The annual inter-college skills competitions offer the chance for students to test their knowledge and skills in a live brief-style contest, competing with those studying the same subject at different colleges across the region.
Grant Glendinning, the Education Training Collective’s chief executive and group principal, and World Skills UK North East Champion, said: “This is not just about competition, it is about striving for excellence. It is about testing yourself, demonstrating professional pride, planning, time management and resilience.”
The inter-college skills competitions take place at colleges across the region, covering every subject from bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing and welding to catering, beauty, music, graphics and performance, and everything in between.
Winners and runners up were presented with medals at the event which also included a live performance from Battle of the Band winners from Middlesbrough College.
There to show her support MP for Redcar Anna Turley said: “It was really exciting to here today to celebrate the wonderful achievements of our young people. It is not only about their achievements it is about their potential.
“It is great to see the colleges come together for this event. Each has its own individual strengths and by working in partnership colleges and young people can benefit from each other.”
A massive well done to all winners, runners up and all those who took part in this year’s skills competitions.
