What better way to raise money for a good cause than indulging in a slice of cake?

That’s what students and staff across the Education Training Collective have been doing, as the colleges joined the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Redcar and Cleveland College, Stockton Riverside College, Bede Sixth Form, NETA Training and The Skills Academy, all got involved.

Volunteers from across the group prepared a feast of sweet treats to help get the cash rolling in.

Heading up the action at Redcar and Cleveland College, marketing officer Connor Kerr said: “This event means such a lot to so many people, it has become an activity we look forward to on the college calendar.

“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer and understands the impact it has on the whole family. This is our opportunity to show that we care.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support’s largest fundraising event to support people living with cancer. People are invited to host their own coffee morning with all donations going to the charity.

“I love baking and I love cake, so the Macmillan coffee morning really is the ideal event for me,” said graphic designer Bethany O’Donnell, who led this year’s event at Stockton Riverside College in memory of her mum.

Tracey Laycock, alternative provision manager at The Skills Academy, added: “Events such as these bring everyone together as a community, which is so important for our young people, especially after the last two years.

“As well as offering the chance to learn about the charity and help a good cause, for The Skills Academy this is a great opportunity to develop learners’ key skills such as money monitoring, organising and promoting the event. It has even fed into our English lessons with students writing an invite letter and email.”

In just a few short hours the colleges together raised more than £500 For Macmillan Cancer Support, with more events due to take place next week.
