It was a change of scenery that appealed to former draftsman, Scott, who was looking to switch from using a computer toolbar to an actual tool kit.
As an architectural technician, Scott spent a lot of time behind a computer screen and he found himself becoming envious of those who worked in a more physical role.
When he received a Redcar & Cleveland College leaflet through his door, he felt that this was his opportunity to progress and he applied to study our level 2 plumbing course.
Scott said: “For about seven years I worked in front of a computer screen and I just wasn’t enjoying it anymore. My brother recently retrained as a plumber and I felt like it would be good fit for me too. The College was local to me and the lecturers seemed great so I signed up.”
Now the owner of his own business, Pearson Plumbing & Drainage, Scott is enjoying being his own boss.
He added: “It’s nice to be working in a more physical job and I definitely prefer being my own boss. My service covers 24 hours so it’s hard work, but I’m grateful that I found the course and changed my career path.”
