Introduction

If you enjoy working with wood and want to put your practical skills to good use, or you want to learn basic woodworking techniques or more complex structures then one of our carpentry & joinery courses could be just for you. Our expert tutors have strong industry experience and links to employers to help you carve out a strong start to your career.

What will I learn

This course covers the basic skills required to work in the carpentry and joinery industry. You will cover topics such as technical information and quantities, producing woodworking joints, health and safety, using hand tools and portable power tools. This course is mainly practical sessions with some theory units.

How will I learn

This course offers a wide range of practical content which is supported by theoretical sessions. You will also take part in work placements, enrichments and tutorials

What's next

On completion of the course you could progress on to our Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery or secure an apprenticeship.

Additional Information

Full-time 16-18 year olds who do not have a grade 4/C or above in Maths and/or English, will attend weekly sessions with specialist tutors to work towards the relevant qualification(s). This is really useful to support you on your main course and is really valued by employers.

We have strong links with local employers who provide guest talks, work placements and apprenticeships.
The Construction industry in the Tees Valley is growing which could provide many job opportunities.
