Course overview
The Access to Higher Education Diploma is a qualification which prepares 19+ learners without traditional qualifications for study at university. If you would like to go to university but left school without the qualifications you need, then an Access to HE course could be for you.
There is no upper-age limit for Access to HE courses and these can be completed in one year, on a part-time basis.
The diploma is made up of a series of level 2 and level 3 units which are individually graded. Subjects will include Level 2 English Skills for Higher Education and Maths.
The graded level 3 units include:
- Health Promotion
- Human Biology
- Professional Skills in Healthcare
- Contemporary Care Practice
- Values Based Health Care
- A Health and Care Research Project
Course information
Assessments involve the writing of academic essays reports, electronic presentations using Stream and research relating to aspects of health and health promotion. All assessments will be required as evidence as you will produce an electronic portfolio of evidence.
On successful completion of the access diploma learners can apply to university for a place on a range of health-related degrees or other higher education degree programmes. These include nursing, operating department practitioner, occupational therapy, dental nurse and physiotherapist. continue your studies with us on the Cert HE Health and Social Care course.
Students will be considered on their individual merits although recent relevant learning at level 2 is advantageous. All applicants will participate in an information session. Following this, will be asked to complete a literacy and numeracy test to determine if a place can be offered.

You will learn through class sessions, which involve lectures and demonstrations. Interactive learning will include using IT and the virtual learning environment (VLE). Learners are supported and encouraged to develop independent learning techniques.
