A massive congratulations to all our award winners at the annual Celebration of Achievement.
This glittering event offers the chance to put the spotlight on the outstanding efforts of our students and apprentices, both in and outside the classroom.
At Redcar and Cleveland College this year, 15 course awards and six headline awards were presented.
Vice principal, Sarah Johnson, said: “Our students never fail to impress me with their drive, ambition and commitment to their studies.”
T-Level Early Years student, Lacey was among those to pick up two awards on the night, named Early Years Student of the Year and 16 to 18 FE Student of the Year.
“It feels amazing,” said the 17-year-old from Liverton Mines. “I didn’t expect this at all.”
Lacey was described by her teachers as a “dedicated and inspiring student”, showing remarkable resilience and strength, over the course of the academic year.
Lacey said: “The support I have had from my tutors has been amazing."
Her ambition is to teach those with additional needs or early years.
Also celebrating success on the night was digital IT student Gabby, 18, from Grangetown.
With a strong work ethic, positive attitude and consistent willingness to go above and beyond, he won the Digital Student of the Year award, he was named Overall Student of the Year, and was highly commended in the English and Maths title.
He said: “This feels like a high achievement. It is something I didn’t think I would ever come close to achieving and it feels grand.”
As he now prepares to continue in his studies, Gabby added: “This will motivate me going forward. I can look back on it as something great I have done during my time at this college.”
Beauty student Daria was also feeling the emotion of the night. Originally from Poland, as an adult student she has developed the skills to launch her own business, juggling the demands of study around being a mum and working as a waitress, all while brushing up on her English skills.
Winner of the Hair and Beauty Student of the Year title and Adult Student of the Year, she was recognised for her determination to achieve and continue to build on and improve her skills.
Daria said: “I feel really good to be here, I have never been to anything like this.”
Moving on to a level 4 qualification at the college in September, she added: “Just to be here, to be nominated and to be among the winners, motivates me to work hard.”
