With her office due to close, Suzanne found herself job hunting after 22 years as a civil servant.

It wasn’t until she found an advert that involved working in a school that Suzanne felt this was something she could really do well.

Suzanne said: “I had been in the same role for 22 years so it was definitely strange to start thinking about what I really wanted to do. I knew I wanted to do something that involved helping others so this advert seemed like a great opportunity.

“Originally I was working as a lunchtime supervisor but the headteacher suggested I look into teaching and that’s how I ended up at Redcar & Cleveland College. It was scary going back into education, I hadn’t put pen to paper since I was at college but the team were fantastic and helped me every step of the way.”

Suzanne is still working at her current school and is excited to explore the possibility of a full time teaching assistant role in the future.

She added: “I had no idea three years ago that this is where I would be, but I’m very grateful for how things have turned out. I love working with children, especially early years and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
