Course overview
This is a course to allow you to gain fantastic knowledge and creative skills for employment within the hairdressing industry. The programme has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in the creative art of cutting and styling ladies hair. You will become experienced in effective shampooing and conditioning services, learn the artistic skill of colouring and lightening hair and also know how to provide an excellent consultation service for your clients.
The Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing is an internationally recognised qualification that is essential for a career in Hairdressing. The qualification comprises of the following units:
- Cut ladies hair
- Colour & lighten hair
- Blow dry and style hair
- Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
- Set and dress hair
- Style hair with electrical equipment
- Advise and consult with clients
- Health, safety and hygiene.
Plus, optional units to reflect skills and knowledge. This may include competition work, perming and plaiting.
Course information
You will be assessed by:
- Produce a formative service/treatment portfolio
- Graded practical assessments
- External exams
- Externally graded assessments (graded synoptic assessment).
You may progress onto VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing. This will allow you to increase your hairdressing skills and further your career within the hairdressing industry.
There are no formal entry requirements, however, a formal interview is required before being accepted.

You will learn through a range of activities, including both theory and practical sessions. Assessments will be completed within the College’s industry standard hair salon Mosaic, on mannequin heads as well as fully
paying customers. There will also be guest speakers, trips and visits to local salons and suppliers, and enrichment activities to enhance your course and learning experience.
