Introduction

This is a course for those who wish to progress from Level 2 Hairdressing and develop their skills and knowledge to an advanced Level 3 standard. It is for students who are already working in the industry and wish to further their career into salon management, teaching and/or training within the hairdressing industry. This course is fantastic for building up skills and knowledge to work on more advanced cutting and focusing on the colour change process.

What will I learn

This Level 3 qualification is a specialist award which will allow you to develop your hairdressing skills further. This course recognises your current level of skills as a hairdresser and allows you to progress and gain skills at a higher professional standard. The Level 3 programme requires competence in a broad range of work activities which are performed in a variety of contexts. It also requires you to demonstrate your capability to undertake additional responsibilities and the control and guidance of others. Units covered include: Hair colouring services, colour correction services, hair cutting services, blow drying and finishing services, setting and dressing services, hairdressing consultation and health and safety in the salon. Plus, optional units to reflect skills and knowledge. This may include, competition work, perming and occasion hair services.

How will I learn

Learning will consist of both theory and practical sessions, with assessments being completed on fully paying customers in the College’s industry standard salon, Mosaic. You will also undertake a number of work placement hours, in order to prepare you for employment within the business. Guest speakers as well as trips to salons and suppliers will enable you to widen your knowledge relating to the hairdressing trade.

What's next

There are many employment opportunities such as working in a commercial salon, assessing, teaching and management, along with self-employment as a mobile hairdresser.

Additional Information

You will be required to wear a uniform for all practical lessons and a kit is essential to aid successful completion of this course. These costs will be discussed at interview. You will be assessed through: • Produce a formative service/treatment portfolio • Graded practical assessments • External exams • Externally graded assessments (graded synoptic assessment).

Taught by fully qualified and experienced tutors and assessors, who have a vast amount of knowledge and expertise and have been within the hairdressing industry for a number of years
Lessons take place within the College’s industry standard salon, Mosaic where you will be completing treatments on fully paying clients
